Axe Cop TPB

Titles: Axe Cop
Author: Malachai Nicolle
Publisher: Dark Horse
My take: Ahahahaha!!!!
Spoiler-free synopsis: It’s Axe Cop. Spoilers wouldn’t matter because its not what happens but HOW it happens that’s so great. And anyway, I’m not sure I could sum this up. At all. :)

The book is worth buying less for the comics – although hilarious and although I like supporting the artist monetarily, they are all online for free if you desire to read them – and more because of the commentary. Artist Ethan Nicolle offers commentary on a good number of the individual strips as well as the overarching story arcs, and the book starts with a forward by Kevin Murphey (yes, THAT Kevin Murphy) who compares the book quite reasonably to “Candide.”

The book contains the genesis of Axe Cop, as well as several brief story arcs:
Evil, Evil, Evil Planet Tinko: the tale of an evil alien planet with an evil alien race and the battle Axe Cop and his friends, along with Uni-Man, have against them. It has a Happy Ending.

The Moon Warriors: The warriors from the moon, Wolfer and Fire Slicer, come to earth to build a fighting house and end up teaming up with Axe Cop to fight. It also features a truck full of ninjas. Because.

The Ultimate Battle: And it is. Also, Baby-Man hunting a duck.

The book also contains a number of Ask Axe Cop episodes, which if I’m being honest are my favorite part of the Axe Cop universe. We get insight on Axe Cop’s thoughts on such topics as child rearing, girls and dirty apes.

All in all, I can’t describe Axe Cop. It’s not predictable. Its not even sensible. But I found the book totally worth the purchase!
